M. William Roy Buttery - ENG

On August 1st, 2025, at the age of 100, William Roy Buttery passed away at Grace Village in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Roy went to sleep peacefully, then departed to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus-Christ.
Roy was predeceased by his loving wife of 70 years, Pearl Evelyn Powell, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, their eldest son Roderick, their daughter-in-law Ellen (Broüwer), and his twin brother Ray. He was the last surviving son of William Buttery and Florence Kate Langman of Regina, Saskatchewan.
Roy leaves behind his children: Joanne, Margot (Michael), Mark, and Lorraine (Brian). His grandchildren: Melani, Madison (Bruce), Philippe (Catherine), Émilie (Maxime), and Michaël (Marie-Jade). His great grandchildren: Reid and Macy; Rosalie, Léona, and Victor; Irène, Henri, and Aurèle; Abby.
The family will receive condolences on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 19:00 to 21:00, and on Friday, September 12 from 9:30 to 10:30, at the Complexe funéraire Elkas located at 4230, rue Bertrand-Fabi, Sherbrooke, Quebec. A bilingual memorial service will be held on September 12 at 11:00 in the chapel of the funeral complex, followed by a light lunch. The ashes will be buried by the family in private.

Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. Philippians 3:17Along with many others I benefited greatly from Mr. Buttery's input into my life. May the following appreciation be a comfort to you (the Buttery family) in seeing how time he spent away from you, building into the lives of other believers, was used of the Lord.
Back in the day when there was an evident contrast between FM and AM radio stations Mr. Buttery came up with the slogan 'FM Christians' which he translated as 'Faithful Models'. He is one of those I 'marked' as an FM Christian over many years. He shared ministry inciting believers to keep looking upwards while also enjoining us to be active here below. He provided the means to do so.
I felt privileged to work under him at Camp Brochet; (other slogans : "une oeuvre francaise pour les francais par les francais" and "bien loger, bien nourrie, bien fouetter'') :) Above all I benefited from the initiative he began in the late 1970's with 'les cours de formation' where believers in nothern Quebec were able to learn the basics of homiletics, hermeneutics, and general courses on what the Bible teaches.
Mr. Buttery will be missed, but I rejoice that he is now experiencing the following reality:

Sympathie
Mes sincères sympathies. Il a été une personne que Dieu a mis sur mon chemin et qui a été une outil par lequel je suis venu au Seigneur. Il a été le célébrant à mon mariage en plus. Nous allons le revoir un jour avec Jesus Christ.Jacques Perron

Remembering Roy
Dear, Joanne, Margot, Marc, and Lorraine,I just heard today from Shirley Vargas (Powell) that Roy had gone heavenward in August. The years of 1969-1971 at Camp Brochet seem so long ago and yet I still have fond memories of my time there with you and your Mum and Dad. He taught me a lot about caring to do the best for God’s Kingdom with the resources at hand.
Your dad is a good man and I’m sure that all the circumstances he went through on this earth were to prepare him for what he will most assuredly be going to do in eternity.
However, as it is written:
“What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”—
the things God has prepared for those who love him—
these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.
I know that it is difficult to lose a parent, but we rejoice in the fact that our sovereign LORD is in control and we all know Roy is much better off where he is now.

Nous tenons, Denis et moi, à vous offrir nos plus sincères condoléances et nous gardons un très beau souvenir de votre père qui a su nous aider à grandir dans la foi chrétienne.Ce fut, pour nous, un modèle d’homme consacré et qui était riche de connaissances sur les prophéties qu’il aimait tant nous enseigner. Nous le savons auprès du Père et de sa tendre épouse! Gloire à Dieu pour un tel homme qui nous a été prêté! 🙏🤝🙏
