M. Peter W. Murray
Sherbrooke, 16 juin 2025
1934 — 2025
It is with profound love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived that the family of Peter Weekes Murray sadly announces his peaceful passing on June 16, 2025, at the age of 91.
Born and raised in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Peter developed a lifelong love for the outdoors and sports. A proud alumnus of St. Francis Xavier University, he was a talented hockey player in his youth and a devoted tennis player well into his later years. Whether on the ice or the court, Peter brought a quiet determination, humility, and a deep respect for fair play.
Peter will be remembered by those who knew him best as a man of quiet strength, unwavering dependability, and deep character. He led by example rather than words—steady, thoughtful, and grounded. His hands were always busy: whether nurturing his land or helping care for the properties of others throughout Sherbrooke, Peter had a gift for bringing out the beauty in the earth. He found joy in simple tasks and purpose in hard work.
Peter was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Lucille Bélanger-Murray; his parents, Bernard W. Murray and Kathleen Campbell; and his brothers, William Murray, John Campbell Murray (Monique Deacon), and Michael Murray.
He leaves behind a devoted family who will miss him deeply: his daughter, Kathleen Murray (Keith Hartley); his son, Bryan Weekes Murray; his granddaughters, Sophie Murray Quinn (Alissa Quinn) and Caroline Murray (Mitchell Goring); and his cherished great-grandchildren, Griffin and Maeve. He is also mourned by his brother, Bernard Murray (Francine Fafard); his sisters-in-law, Pauline and Louise Bélanger; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
Quiet in nature, strong in spirit, Peter leaves behind a legacy of grace, dignity, and steadfast love. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now at peace.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Steve L. Elkas Funeral Home (601 Rue du Conseil, Sherbrooke). A celebration of life will follow in the chapel at 11:00 a.m., with a light reception on-site. The burial will take place at Saint-Michel Cemetery in Sherbrooke
The service will be available to view live or in replay at: link to come
Instead of flowers, the family invites donations in Peter’s memory to the Fédération Québécoise des Sociétés Alzheimer:
